Charlie Travers, Time Traveller
Charlie Travers, Time Traveller is a series of books written for 9-14 year olds. They take Charlie back in time on all sorts of adventures where he has to face many different challenges. Charlie's not sure he likes facing challenges and sometimes, he wishes he'd never been born a Time Traveller, but he learns to cope with his parent's eccentric hobby and finds in the end that he really has a lot of fun.

The first in the series is Operation Cezanne. Charlie travels back to the early 1900s to Aix-en-Provence. "Aix-en-Provence," he yelled at the closed door. "Boring, boring, boring. How come Ade gets to go to the Boer Wars and the French Revolution and I get to – to - to go to a stupid bath in Aix-en-Provence?"

Time Travellers go back and visit history as it happens, although Charlie can't reveal in class when history books get it wrong... His mum is forever cooking things she discovered on a Time tour, such as 'frumenty' and does all her food shopping in the Middle Ages because she thinks it's better for him. Much to his embarrassment, she also tries to make all his time travel clothes.

The stories are well written and full of humour, but as with all Bongo LLP products the story is just one part of the learning jigsaw. The books are a terrific read plus they are full of real facts from history. Bongo LLP is developing flipchart lessons for all of the locations Charlie visits. These cover both historical facts and art appreciation.

So why not pick up a good read for the children in your school and motivate them to learn about history and art at the same time?
